Office & Maintenance Shop | Martin, SD

This project was to design a building to house and service a 6,500 square foot DOT Office and Maintenance facility in Martin, South Dakota.

This new building includes 3 bays for vehicle storage and office/crew rooms for the staff. Shop heating is in-floor heat and unit heaters for quick recovery when the garage doors open. Ventilation is provided with a large plate ERV with gas heat after the ventilation air exits the plate exchanger to bring the air up to neutral temperature. High-efficiency gas boilers are used to provide the heating water for the in floor heat. The office area is heated and cooled with a furnace and condensing unit pair. Bathroom fixtures include standard flush valve toilet and urinal and a shower. Exhaust in the bathrooms is provided by a small ceiling-mounted inline exhaust fan.

Fluorescent high bays are used to light the garage and recessed indirect fixtures light the office spaces. A portable generator connection is installed to bring in back-up power to the building in case of a utility outage. Reels are installed at each column between the bays for receptacles, and air hoses. Between each bay, there are hose bibs and a compressed air connection. The site also includes unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel island.
