An Award-Winning Match

The Sioux Park Tennis Courts reconstruction brought new life to one of Rapid City’s most-used recreational spaces. The project delivered fully repaired tennis and racquetball courts, eliminated cracking and surface deformities, and added new seating and shade structures to make practices, lessons, and tournaments more comfortable for families and spectators. The renovated courts quickly became a community highlight—an improvement recognized nationally with a 2024 US Tennis Association Outstanding Facility Award for its upgraded design and amenities.
Supporting the upgraded facility required a complete overhaul of the electrical and lighting systems. WPE designed a new LED sports lighting package that met USTA-recommended illumination levels for competition-grade tennis while also covering adjacent racquetball courts. The LED fixtures provided improved uniformity, reduced glare, and long-term energy efficiency—key factors for a city facility that hosts both daily play and nighttime events. Additional pedestrian lighting was incorporated to improve safety throughout the park without spilling excessive light onto the courts.
Electrical distribution was also updated to accommodate a future scoreboard and to provide rough‑ins for an eventual sound system, ensuring the complex could continue expanding its event capabilities down the road.
