Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veteran’s Home

Solar Arrays | Hot Springs, SD

This design-build project for the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veteran’s Home provided a solar photovoltaic array for the main building on campus.

This building had a peak load of 350kW and the PV array was designed at 330kW and placed on-grade to the northwest of the building, approximately 1,250 feet. The solar panels are fixed and tilted to the south. There were a total of 1,080 solar panels and 5 arrays including 5 60kW inverters.

All load is expected to be consumed by the building loads but will have a bi-directional meter by Black Hills Energy to pay back the State for any excess energy not consumed on-site. The project is expected to provide payback after 10 years.

The system was tied to the incoming building service at 480V 3 phase.
