Sioux Falls Surgical Center Addition & Remodel

Sioux Falls Surgical Center | Sioux Falls, SD

West Plains Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design services for a series of projects at The Sioux Falls Surgical Center in South Dakota. These projects included the remodeling of existing storage space into overnight patient rooms, the addition of an MRI unit, and a two-story addition which included hospital recovery rooms. These projects converted the facility from an outpatient surgical center to a surgical center with hospital facilities. The first two projects involved the extension of existing mechanical and electrical systems into the remodeled and addition space. The next project involved new mechanical and electrical systems and a two-story addition of hospital recovery rooms to the existing facility. WPE provided completely new HVAC, plumbing, and medical oxygen and medical vacuum systems. The HVAC system incorporated a modular air handling unit serving a VAV system throughout both stories of the addition. DX cooling was utilized in the air handler to provide for air conditioning. A modular boiler plant was installed in the penthouse to provide hot water for building heat through reheat coils in the VAV boxes and radiant ceiling panels in the recovery rooms. Domestic cold water was extended from the existing facility and a new commercial water heater was installed to provide domestic hot water for the patient rooms. The medical gas system was extended from the existing facility into the new patient rooms.
