Onawa Volunteer Fire Department

New Fire Station | Onawa, IA

West Plains Engineering provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for this new fire station for the Onawa, Iowa Volunteer Fire Department. The new fire station included the Chief’s office, meeting room, kitchen, activity room, shop area, and apparatus room. There is also extra storage and mechanical space in the Mezzanine.

The mechanical system utilized high-efficiency gas-fired furnaces with air-to-air pumps for the meeting room, office, and kitchen areas. The apparatus room was heated with in-floor heating and gas fire unit heaters, and equipped with a C0/N02 detection and exhaust system.

The electrical system consisted of electrical service at 120/240V, single phase, 400 amps to serve the fire station. A complete fire alarm system with detection and notification was installed throughout the entire building, and energy-efficient lighting was provided with emergency lighting.
